A new HEROES REBORN imagines a Marvel U where the Avengers never existed

It appears that everything old-fashioned truly is new again over at Marvel. First the publisher announced a new Clone Saga storyline, this time starring newer wall-crawler Miles Morales. That storyline will kick off in April, and today the publisher announcedHeroes Reborn, a new line from Jason Aaron and Ed McGuinness that will debut its first issue the following month. No inker, colorist, or letterer were identified in the streak advertisement, which was accompanied by a teaser triptych not by McGuinness but by artists Iban Coello and Espen Grundetjern.

Spinning out of the events of the Aaron-written Avengers series, Heroes Reborn will follow a nature in which the Avengers not only never formed, but never existed at all 😛 TAGEND

Welcome to a nature where Tony Stark never improved an Iron Man armor. Where Thor is a hard-drinking atheist who abhors hammers. Where Wakanda is dismissed as a belief. And where Captain America was never found in the frost, because there were no Avengers to find him. Instead this world-wide has always been protected by Earth’s Mightiest Heroes, the Squadron Supreme of America. And now the Squadron face an attack from some of their fiercest antagonists, like Dr. Juggernaut, the Black Skull, the Silver Witch and Thanos with his Infinity Rings. The Heroes Reborn title, like the aforementioned Clone Saga title, has a somewhat infamous pedigree. The name announces back to a 1996 initiative in which, in the wake of the Onslaught storyline, the Avengers and the Fantastic Four were removed from the Marvel Universe and sent to a pocket macrocosm created by Franklin Richards. Four claims — Avengers, Iron Man, Captain America, and Fantastic Four — were relaunched under the direction of authors Jim Lee and Rob Liefeld’s studios, while in the main Marvel Universe the remaining heroes had to find a way to continue on following all of those characters’ seeming deaths. “Heroes Reborn” lasted for really over a year, with each of the brand-new names rolling for 13 topics, before the Heroes Reborn: The Return miniseries rehabilitated all of the heroes’ rememberings and introduced them back to the Marvel U.

The new Heroes Reborn births very little resemblance to the original, save for the removal of the Avengers from the timeline. Marvel secreted a series of teaser portraits for the serial last week featuring artwork by Carlos Pacheco, Rafael Fontirez, Mariano Taibo, and Matt Milla of rotate and mashed-up versions of other Marvel U courages, all of which you can see below along with the full text of Marvel’s announcement. The new Heroes Reborn will debut in stores in May.

I got to cut loose on this and release my internal comic-reared child in a really profound way, and together with a cadre of uncommonly ingenious creators, we constructed a life that I’m quite confident in saying is quite unlike any edition of the Marvel Universe you’ve seen before, ” Aaron said of his latest Marvel saga. “It flourished out of the sheets of my AVENGERS run, but saved coming bigger and bigger as it proceeded, and the more cases I put in place for this Reborn world, the more jovial and agitated I became. This projection really tended the ardours of my compassion for comics in all the right ways.”
